A 10-Minute Nervous System Reset for Deep Rest

(Plus an Extra Helpful Resource)

If your mind feels exhausted but your body won’t slow down, you’re not broken—and you’re not doing anything wrong.

Sometimes your nervous system just needs a gentle signal of safety, not another thing to “fix.” Even a few intentional minutes can begin the shift toward deep rest.

This reset is designed to help you start calming your body in about 10 minutes, with the option to continue resting longer if that feels supportive.

Why a Short Reset Can Lead to Deeper Rest

When your nervous system has been activated for too long, it doesn’t respond well to force. What it does respond to is consistency, softness, and permission.

The first 10 minutes of calming practices below are often enough to:

  • Slow your breathing

  • Release physical tension

  • Reduce mental chatter

  • Signal safety to your body

From there, deeper rest can unfold naturally.

A Gentle Nervous System Reset (Start with 10 Minutes)

You can do this seated, lying down, or in bed. There’s no “right” way—comfort comes first.

1. Settle the Body (1–2 minutes)

Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.
Let your shoulders drop. Unclench your jaw.

You’re not trying to relax—just allowing your body to arrive where it already is.

2. Slow the Breath (2–3 minutes)

Inhale through your nose.
Exhale slowly through your mouth.

If it helps, imagine each exhale gently lowering the volume in your body.

Longer exhales = safety signals.

3. Ground Through Sensation (3–5 minutes)

Notice what’s supporting you:

  • The surface beneath your body

  • The weight of your limbs

  • The temperature of the room

Let your awareness rest there. No effort required.

At this point, many people already feel a noticeable shift.

  • Overstimulation

  • Nighttime rest

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Nervous system fatigue

There’s no goal. Simply let the guidance carry you.

Let This Be Enough

Rest doesn’t have to be earned.
Calm doesn’t have to be forced.

Whether you take 10 minutes or stay for all 23, your nervous system is receiving exactly what it needs.

Save this reset and come back whenever your body asks for quiet.
